Applications
7 NBI applications across fusion and neutron-source devices.
HOT-JASS
A lightweight, transparent tool for exploring neutral beam efficiency in tokamak plasma.
- Fast and easy to run — a few machine and beam parameters are enough, with no equilibrium files or other external inputs required
- Beginner-friendly and suited to education, as well as experienced physicists and engineers
- Derives beam effects from the full loss chain — shine-through, orbit losses, charge-exchange and slow-down distributions — solving self-consistent operation points in a few seconds
- Extends the classical Jassby model for beam–thermal optimization to compact tokamaks, with no restrictions on beam energy or plasma geometry
- Especially relevant for fusion neutron source design based on spherical and low-aspect-ratio tokamaks, where spatial effects strongly affect fast-ion confinement and beam-plasma performance
- Applied to define the operation range for the DANTE project
- Open and free to use, for scientific, educational and commercial tokamak studies
