BTR — Beam Transmission with Re-ionization
Developed during ITER’s conceptual design phase.
- Open and free, beginner-friendly — still used for education in NBI principles
- Covers the full stack of NBI physics and engineering: beam propagation, losses, thermal analysis, component optimization, and overall NBI system performance
- Verified and validated by the JET NBI team (2008)
- Used for ITER’s heating and diagnostic neutral beam design (DDD 5.3, 2002)
- Used by NBI professionals worldwide
- 5 major versions so far
- Windows-compatible only — NBR plans to port it to Linux and add more flexibility in input/output
